He has voiced Mufasa in <i>The Lion King <\/i>as well as Darth Vader in the <i>Star Wars <\/i>films. It seems the actor is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.wdef.com\/entertainment\/story\/James-Earl-Jones-To-Be-Honoured-For-Voice-Work\/Aix14u14Bk6SmhgtpSVOpQ.cspx\" target=\"_blank\">finally being recognized<\/a> for his voiceover work after it was reported that he has received a special award from the Society of Voice Arts and Sciences.<\/p>\n<p>On Sunday, November 9, Jones received the Voice Icon Award at the first Voice Arts Awards. The Voice Arts Awards aims to recognize voice acting talent in film, TV, as well as commercials and videogames. The ceremony was held at the Museum of Moving Image in New York City.<\/p>\n<p \/>\n<p>For the November 9 installment of NPR\u2019s \u201cMy Big Break\u201d series, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.npr.org\/2014\/11\/09\/362328749\/james-earl-jones-from-stutterer-to-janitor-to-broadway-star\" target=\"_blank\">Jones talked<\/a> about his life and his work. \u201cI loved the Army, I almost stayed in the Army,\u201d Jones said about what he would have done if he wasn\u2019t acting. \u201cI was pre-med in college and couldn\u2019t handle that. I considered being a priest at one point \u2014 I\u2019m glad I didn\u2019t do that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 1969 he won a Tony Award for his portrayal of boxer Jack Jefferson in the play <i>The Great White Hope<\/i>. Jefferson was based on real-life pugilist Jack Johnson. Jones reprised the role when <i>The Great White Hope<\/i> was adapted for the big screen. \u201cThe Great White Hope put me on the cover of Newsweek magazine,\u201d he says. \u201cOne day that week, somebody noticed you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>But what he\u2019s clearly remembered for is for his role as the voice of Darth Vader, one of the most iconic villains in cinema. He <a href=\"http:\/\/www.huffingtonpost.com\/2014\/10\/09\/james-earl-jones-star-wars-rebels_n_5962798.html\" target=\"_blank\">revisited the role<\/a> recently for the animated series <i>Star Wars: Rebels<\/i>.
